Adoption Process

  • All dogs will be adopted "as is, with all faults" to the first person interested in the dog on or after the dog's available date.
  • There will be no holding or "dibs" of any kind for anyone except an owner coming to redeem their own dog.
  • In the event that more than 1 person is here for the same dog, there will be a lottery.
  • Once a dog is adopted, they will go to the vet for a mandatory spay or neuter, and the new owner will pick their dog up from the vet a few days later (details at time of adoption).
  • Meet and Greets (with dogs, kids, cats) are highly recommended before the adoption date as we do not know the background of the dogs. Potential adopters can come in anytime prior to the adoption date to do a meet and greet.

Lottery for the Adoption of a Dog

  • People hoping to adopt may start gathering in the parking lot at 9:50 am for the lottery.
  • Doors open at 10 am and anyone here for the same dog will be given a ticket.
  • Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid ID with them, and must be able to pay the full $106 for the adoption at the time of the drawing.
  • Payment is cash or check only: we cannot accept cards. If paying with a check, please have two checks: 1 for $26 to the Lorain County Auditor for the license, and a second for $80 to the Lorain County Treasurer for the sale, totaling $106.
  • Winner of the lottery must be adopting the dog for themselves and therefore do all the paperwork in their own name.
